My first reaction to reading the paper regarding Karen Bosley's retirement was, "oh, no!". My second reaction was that I was very happy for her. It is with heavy heart and mixed emotions that I write this posting. Karen Bosley has shown everyone at Ocean County College what is means to have integrity, determination, and courage. She was treated so wrongly by so many in the administration, yet always took the high road. Bosley persevered when it would have been easier to fold and walk away. She took on the bullies and won. I am sure that King John and his toadies are doing cartwheels in response to her retirement announcement, but they must all stop to lick the wounds they received in the battle with Bosley.
I am so happy and proud to have been a colleague of Karen and Norman Bosley. I learned a tremendous amount from both of them. They both touched the lives of so many people. I wish them good health and happiness in retirement.
ear WebMaster: Can we get a new blog topic going? The COllege reorganization...

This could be a coincidence, but I noticed that they are keeping the deans who are former faculty (and would go back to teaching if they were axed since they kept their tenure). Novelli, Polk, and Brown have never taught here, so they don't have jobs.
Posted by: Osama Bin Larson | December 03, 2008 at 12:35 AM
Huh? Novelli, Polk, Brown out? Will they at least be teaching? Martin's a great guy and an academic who probably should have been teaching all along. What's the point of this rumored reorg anyway? Where's the money coming from? Anyone up there hear about the recession? Where is dean dick in all this? My guess (what I hear) is that they will not be hiring Wetta's replacement any time soon so would this happen only when they hire the new Larson dittohead? Question--Is Lafferty now the acting dean of soc sci? How did THAT happen? You're right, guys, we don't have enough administrators! But at least if they are putting in more layers (its a virtual cake), can't they at least s...can the ones who have been around forever who get shifted each year to new departments, and not cause they've done such a bang up job in the previous ones. Just take a look at the first floor of Admin building. Instructional support comes to mind.Let's see how this all pans out.

Actually, I like most of the facilities people I know even though a couple of the head honchos in the department can be quite "challenging."
Posted by: Forgotten, not gone | November 28, 2008 at 05:03 PM
Hey, I love working in facilities. Although I am not "on the inside" so I don't know what exactly is happening. But, I do like facilities!
Posted by: Suzanne | November 28, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Kathy Grofik is currently the manager of Security. Mike Putnam is the "manager of campus services" and was once basically the mail room guy.
I'd heard there were as many as 24 people being shifted around in the facilities area (including mailroom & security people.)
Posted by: Forgotten, not gone | November 26, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Who the hell are Grofik and Putnam?
Posted by: Webmaster | November 26, 2008 at 08:56 PM
Some people I haven't heard of before suddenly have brand new positions, or others have insanely elevated titles (and salaries I suppose) like Grofik and Putnam...what is up with that?
Posted by: | November 26, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Novelli, Polk, Brown-OUT
Strada, Perabo, Showalter-IN
They all get multiple assistant deans. OCC is the Dolly Parton of community colleges!

Vague rumors. As usual, they'll tell us after the fact. Great to hear we may get another level of Administration. I was just thinking we really needed more of them.
Heck, keep going this way and pretty soon everyone will be an administrator.
Posted by: Forgotten, not gone | November 26, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Heard lots of rumors. Nothing confirmed. ANyone have details?
Posted by: Fedup | November 25, 2008 at 02:20 PM
Anybody hear about the "reorganization"?
Three deans axed, three retained and another level of administration added. Sounds like a match made in hell...

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Crickets...
Everyone is lying low. Waiting for the next round of B.S. to hit us all.

Hello???
(Listening to echo)
Is anyone still out there? It's been so quiet lately. Or is the Viking News right about the veil of secrecy that has been dropped over OCC?

BHDT: I don't think PhD's are "required" and if that is the case I"m a goner. I would think they would hire a PhD over someone without if that person also had experience. BUT...to be VP of Acad. Aff. requires one according to the job description. SPeaking of credentials though, seems adjuncts are still hired to teach with degrees not in their teaching field. I heard of one new fulltimer who was hired over and rewarded more for a masters degree in education over the other hires with phds and that a lot of new people given instructor titles were had more experience than this particular person. Rules are ignored and when questioned the powers that be always have an excuse.

Ladies and gentelmen,
Regarding the Webmaster's comments of 9/12, you might want to look (again) at my posting of 6/30 under the heading, "Wetta Resigns, Let the Dominoes Fall. . . ." Larson has annointed an individual to be VPAA who does not have a Ph.D. Why do faculty require Ph.Ds?
Posted by: Been here, done this | September 12, 2008 at 04:13 PM
Did anybody else notice that a PhD was not required for the new VPAA? Did I miss something or is this just opening the way for dean dick or Miss Manners as a permanent replacement?
Posted by: Webmaster | September 12, 2008 at 11:38 AM
I do apologize, but you probably won't hear much from me in the coming weeks, and months. I have my last semester of nursing to complete!
BUT, you can always feel free to email me.

It's been awfully quiet here lately - have Our Dear Leader/wee vee pee dick/Miss Manners ruled that the blog is "uncivil" and declared its use to be a violation of the Loyalty Oath?

Colloquium thoughts? Well, I'm so glad that the College has achieved such a wonderful degree of trust as exemplified by its President, etc. Also glad to know that secrecy is only a display of responsible leadership, not tyrannical management.
And here I thought there were problems.
Posted by: Forgotten, not gone | September 01, 2008 at 09:13 AM
Enjoy labor day weekend all. Any thoughts on the colloquium? I didn't mind it as much as in previous years but maybe I'm just immune at this point. Enter Deanlet Dick as Acting blah blah blah

Very interesting question, Webmaster. Perhaps it is time to have someone with expertise in contract law scrutinize the existing (old) contract.
Posted by: Been here, done this | August 15, 2008 at 04:30 PM
None of the full-time faculty has signed a contract yet, no?
Are we contractually obligated to go to the colloquium if we are not under contract?
